About WESC
“When WESC started in early spring 1999, it was a new company; yet no inexperienced people were behind it. It was built by a tightly knit group of people with a solid background in clothing, skateboarding and snowboarding. There were never any questions about what we wanted to create: a company based on personal engagement and conviction; a theme of shared ideas and common values; and friendship, trust and honesty among equals. With a unique network of contacts among athletes, artists, companies and media, our first priority was always to create a feeling of solidarity. The term “Superlative Conspiracy” symbolizes what WESC as a brand and company represents: a group, a family of good and competent people working toward the same ideal. We is neither a skateboard nor a snowboard clothing company; WESC is an street fashion company with its roots in skateboarding.”

Hacking Democracy

Diebold and W

The HBO documentary “Hacking Democracy” has been uploaded to Google video.. no telling how long it will be there so watch it sooner than later.

“Hacking Democracy (HBO Special) Electronic voting machines count about 87% of the votes cast in America today. But are they reliable? Are they safe from tampering? From a current congressional hearing to persistent media reports that suggest misuse of data and even outright fraud, concerns over the integrity of electronic voting are growing by the day. And if the voting process is not secure, neither is America’s democracy. The timely, cautionary documentary HACKING DEMOCRACY exposes gaping holes in the security of America’s electronic voting system. ”

Powell Peralta

Powell Peralta

At one time Powell Peralta was the world’s most successful skateboard company. They had the dream team, some of the best quality boards and wheels. This video part (Public Domain, 1988) pretty much made me take 2 years of my life and dedicate it to learning as much as I could 6+ hours every single day. It’s hard to even think about the effect it had on me. I’ll forever be in debt to this group of people for inspiring me like that.

Powell Peralta has recently put up a web site with a huge graphical timeline of the imagery the created in ads, photos, video and countless logos. The slice pictured above covers from mid 1986 til about 1989.

Flash version is huge (7meg) but worth it — or the text version of it’s history

Le Devoir

Le Devoir Design

Le Devoir has recently relaunched their website. It’s a well respected French Language newspaper in Québec.
With sFIR image titles to bring their headline typography to the web, updated logo, lots of text and fewer images, CSS control of almost everything, lock icons denoting pay-for content, RSS (one for the entire site), Semi-cleaned up code, Publi-© copyright service, Some very ugly send-to-a-friend pages and a very good daily archive system that use perma URL’s with a clear easy to read date.

Still leaves a lot to be desired but it’s better than most newspaper web sites out there. I believe the site was re-designed by vdl2.ca.

The Edge Of Blade Runner

The Edge Of Blade Runner

An awesome short documentary about one of my favorite movies. Deals with a majority of the interesting questions surrounding the movie, it’s production, the holes in the story line (intentional and non-intentional) plus a lot more…

“On the Edge of Blade Runner (55 minutes), produced in 2000 by Nobles Gate Ltd. (for Channel 4), was directed by Andrew Abbott and hosted/written by Mark Kermode, and is scheduled to be included in the Special Edition. Interviews with production staff, including Scott, give details of the creative process and the turmoil during preproduction. Stories from Paul M. Sammon and Fancher provide insight into Philip K. Dick and the origins of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Interweaved are cast interviews (with the notable exceptions of Harrison Ford and Sean Young), which convey some of the difficulties of making the film (including an exacting director and humid, smoggy weather). There is also a tour of some locations, most notably the Bradbury Building and the Warner Brothers backlot that became the LA 2019 streets, and which look very different from Scott’s dark vision.

The documentary then details the test screenings and the resulting changes (the voice over, the happy ending, and the deleted Holden hospital scene), the special effects, the soundtrack by Vangelis, and the unhappy relationship between the filmmakers and the investors which culminated in Deeley and Scott being fired but still working on the film. The question of whether or not Deckard is a replicant surfaces.” — Wikipedia
