Nambu for Twitter on OS X

nambu

A great new client has been released for accessing twitter on the Mac OS Desktop. It’s called Nambu.

Although still a bit buggy and rough around the edges — It has a couple features that I’ve been after:

  • Native Mac App – Nice and fast (no slow/clunky AIR code)
  • Parses #/Topic tags
  • Built in Twitter search — with “smart” updating results
  • Support for photos (even direct from iSight) and shortened links
  • Groups
  • Easy to use “multiple accounts”
  • Dead simple “retweet”
  • Keyboard shortcuts for everything
  • Translate feature
  • Free version for iPhone/iTouch

It’s not perfect yet – it’s crashed a couple times on me. But it’s well wort looking at.

Opening weekend at The Wall

thewall_smooth

Well we missed the first pumping spring session at The Wall.

It was painful to wake up early Saturday morning and check the cams to find solid swell. I was heading down to the cottage to meet up with Banane for some laps at Jay Peak.

The above shot was from yesterday which was just as good.

Ralph has a number of shots from the past 3 days up. Ones like this make me cryAnd this — Might as well shed a tear for this one too

But – the good news is that every weekend from here on out has a potential green-light.

GTD @ plank, on my Mac and soon in teams

things

I’ve become a convert to the Getting Things Done philosophy. I always liked it conceptually but had not committed. No — I use about 85% of David’s workflow to keep track of my work (@plankdesign) and it’s slowly moving into everything I need to get done.

I’ve been working with different systems over the past 1/2 year – none which stuck. Things has been great for the past 3 months I’ve committed to it; It’s fast and easy; It’s trust worthy and I can quickly do mini-reviews and more lengthy reviews with little fuss. Painless.

But it’s not shared. My Things list is mine and mine only.

Thankfully my good buddy Elbert has started working on a web app called Nirvana (inspired by Things) which is meant for small teams. The same principals but applied to a group of people who work together.

It’s not ready yet — the previews I have seen look fantastic though. I’ve also been giving advice and lending a hand making it the best it can be. I’ll be writing up a separate blog post later on for Nirvana.

The 6th sense

proj_watch

This video offers a true glimpse into the future.

Might seem clunky now — I can guarantee it won’t be for long. I say there’s something commercial like this that works via highspeed Bluetooth to your iPhone before 2014.

Maybe it will come from Apple (one can dream).

Watch the video here.

Dave and the 628$ skateboarding ticket in MTL

daveb

My good buddy Dave Bouthillier is fighting the ridiculous fine imposed by the city of MTL and the police. Dave was given a whopping 628$ ticket for skateboarding (even though he was just standing around) at Montreal’s “Peace Park” on the corner of St. Laurent Blvd. / René Lévesque Blvd.

Skateboarding at peace Park has helped – not hindered. It’s brought people who are not junkies to an area of town which was lost/dangerous in the past years. No doubt having skaters there has made it somewhat safer.

The most interesting part to this is that Dave is right in the middle of a full length documentary about the spot/the culture and people surrounding it which has received hefty support from provincial and federal arts-funding juries.

I have known dave since he was in grade 8. He’s a great guy with a good heart. Do what you can to support Dave and spread the word. His summons date is March 23 in Montreal Municipal Court.

This is truly not what I want my tax dollars used for. Maybe you feel the same.

Snowboarding shots of Asahidake

Asahidake Feb 2009
Loving this photo stream from flickr member meguroplitan in Japan.

Some shots that make my heart pound. Empty beauty on a pow day in Northern Japan.

“Mount Asahi (?? Asahi-dake?) is the tallest mountain in Hokkaid?, Japan. Part of the Daisetsuzan Volcanic Group of the Ishikari Mountains, it is located in the northern part of the Daisetsuzan National Park.

The mountain is popular with hikers in the summer and can be easily reached from Asahidake Onsen via Asahidake Ropeway.
Sugatami Pond, directly below the peak, is famous for its reflection of the peaks, snow, and steam escaping from the volcanic vents.”
