The first week surfing has been super fun. Took a good 3 days to get some of the kooky-ness worked out. Board survived the plane ride in the new bag. Solid hot hot days and not too much wind. Still very dry here and not a drop of rain had fallen.
We’ve been surfing at Sayulita [...]

Skateboarding Magazines from 1989-1991
April 27th, 2008 · 5 Comments
I’ve bought a lot of skateboard magazines over the years. As I’ve mentioned before; these magazines provided an escape from the rural area that I started skating in — they connected me with so many other likewise people and opened my mind to a lot of culture I might have never seen.
Luckily I still have [...]

Patagonia on Mt. Alberta ascent
April 24th, 2008 · No Comments
The Patagonia blog always has these stories of great outdoor adventure; this one struck me due to it being in Canada and the difficulty of the route; Really living what they preach and what their business is; inspiring.
“In March I went up to the Canadian Rockies, one of my favorite mountain ranges, and spent a [...]

WESC 2008 Campaign
April 18th, 2008 · No Comments
I’m loving the 2008 WESC summer campaign.
It’s a series of photos that look like they might be photoshop-ed collages, but in reality are carefully staged/set-up to look like items are on top of other items; items have been pasted; and using techniques similar to “forced perspective“.
Well done.

East coast starting to warm up

The Wall looks excellent this morning.
Even with 43°F water there looks to be a ton of people out. Guess that swell & sunshine really helps forgot the ice building up on your whiskers.

Patagonia’s series with Gerry and Jock
April 16th, 2008 · 2 Comments
Watch this excellent 6 part series called ‘Talkin Pipe’ with Gerry Lopez and Jock Sutherland talking about surfing on the North shore of Hawaii.
They have some great stories and are really enjoyable to listen to.
On November 10, 2007, Gerry Lopez and his surfing hero, Jock Sutherland, gave a slide show presentation entitled “Talkin’ Pipe” [...]

Update: Week 13 of Yoga
April 15th, 2008 · 6 Comments
Well well well… here we are at week 13! Can you believe it? Not quite sure but that’s about 50 yoga full sessions.
Back at week 4; (http://www.stevey.com/2008/02/10/update-week-4-of-yoga/) I was really starting to feel the results of it.
I was still sweating like crazy by the end of each session (not that I’m that much better [...]

Shakedown Panorama

Shakedown Panorama
Spent last Saturday up at Mont Saint Sauveur attending the 2008 Shakedown (www.shakedown.ca).
This is a shot of the setup. Huge jump across a 20 foot deep channel to multiple rails. They put it all “sideways” on the mountains this year to allow better views for the crowds watching below. Crazy stuff.

Gavo trying a boardslide @ shakedown from stevey on Vimeo.
From the Shakedown Vans rail comp yesterday. My bud Gavin trying a boardslide down the entire rail. He almost made it to the end but his time and energy ran out!
Thomas Parent won the event with a ridiculous feeble down the entire bar. I talked to [...]

Fin the movie
April 3rd, 2008 · No Comments
I bought myself a digital download of “Fin” from thesurfnetwork.com.
A very fun movie; but I’ve learnt that I just can’t handle the sickly sweet narration of Wingnut. I don’t think he’s totally at fault; but whoever wrote that script for him should be banished to the land of Warren Miller ski movies.
Otherwise the surfing was [...]
