Mtl summer sky pano

Mtl summer sky pano
Sitting on the porch getting some air on another beautiful summers day, we’ll be able to get out soon for some daily walks.

Too much being cooped up in the apt is starting to wear on us both (not really but i’m sure it would add some spice to our crazy routine of the past 2 weeks).

‘Close to Home’ trailer

Nice looking movie with heart and a great song for the trailer. Don’t know much more about the film — but I’d like to see it.

Close to Home by Walkin’ J films

“Close to Home is a story about two regular people doing what every surfer dreams about – taking a year and traveling to as many places as possible to score epic waves! Puerto Rico, the Maldives, New Zealand, and South and West Oz act as the backdrop for beautiful adventures and lessons learned in environmental protection.”

This is water

Was reading this at lunch and thought I’d share it…

Transcription of the 2005 Kenyon Commencement Address By David Foster Wallace, May 21, 2005

Greetings, and congratulations to Kenyon’s graduating class of 2005.

“There are these two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says “Morning, boys. How’s the water?” And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes “What the hell is water?””

This is a standard requirement of US commencement speeches, the deployment of didactic little parable-ish stories. The story turns out to be one of the better, less bullshitty conventions of the genre, but if you’re worried that I plan to present myself here as the wise, older fish explaining what water is to you younger fish, please don’t be. I am not the wise old fish. The point of the fish story is merely that the most obvious, important realities are often the ones that are hardest to see and talk about. Stated as an English sentence, of course, this is just a banal platitude, but the fact is that in the day to day trenches of adult existence, banal platitudes can have a life or death importance, or so I wish to suggest to you on this dry and lovely morning.

Leah’s photos of Marge’s farm house

DSC_0072
My little cousin Leah has taken a whole set of great photos of our Grandma’s house up in Gray Valley on the Rouge River (near Huberdeau).

I spent quite a bit of time here as a child and love the place. I’ve always thought of it as “a farm house of a very smart woman”. Sensible, thoughtful and beautiful.

Some of the colours in her house will inspire me forever.

GTD @ plank, on my Mac and soon in teams

things

I’ve become a convert to the Getting Things Done philosophy. I always liked it conceptually but had not committed. No — I use about 85% of David’s workflow to keep track of my work (@plankdesign) and it’s slowly moving into everything I need to get done.

I’ve been working with different systems over the past 1/2 year – none which stuck. Things has been great for the past 3 months I’ve committed to it; It’s fast and easy; It’s trust worthy and I can quickly do mini-reviews and more lengthy reviews with little fuss. Painless.

But it’s not shared. My Things list is mine and mine only.

Thankfully my good buddy Elbert has started working on a web app called Nirvana (inspired by Things) which is meant for small teams. The same principals but applied to a group of people who work together.

It’s not ready yet — the previews I have seen look fantastic though. I’ve also been giving advice and lending a hand making it the best it can be. I’ll be writing up a separate blog post later on for Nirvana.

For now… Follow along here | Website
