The Tulpa

Monk robes

This short movie “The Tulpa” (trailer here) has popped up on The Movie Network (it’s showing numerous times in the next 2 weeks). It’s a story about “a television reporter that interviews a Tibetan Monk named Tenzin who claims he can create objects, and beings that other people can see by using intense meditation and concentration techniques”.

Written and directed by Elizabeth Becker, she has carefully crafted a surprising story which leaves you with a funny feeling as you watch – as similarities occur between the characters arc and the arc your mind makes as you understand the story, as “willed onto the screen” by Becker.

“A tulpa is, in Tibetan mysticism, a being or object which is created through willpower, visualisation, attention and focus, concerted intentionality and ritual. In other words, it is a materialized thought that has taken physical form” — http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulpa
